Security From the Inside – Through Love – this Winter Solstice

As we come upon the Winter Solstice we are being asked to let go of the past and clear the residue that continues to hang on from our deepest shadow selves. 2013 hasn’t been so easy for many people, for some there seems to be no comfort anywhere. Sudden life changing illness and impacts are hitting peoples lives right and left.  Those who are weathering these storms with grace have done the work to establish an inner resource for balance.

Winter Solstice is the time of the longest night and then the beginning of the light returning.

We are transforming our ideas of security now….. at the Fall Equinox, I saw that many of us were blocking our ability to expand into  creating our lives based on love because of old wounds and grievances still being held in the heart. Many of us have felt a lot of pressure in our heart areas since then. But, whether you felt it physically or energetically, try to wind it up with this Winter Solstice.

We need to go deeply into loving ourselves, letting go of the past so that we can form new partnerships and ground new ideas into our lives in the coming year. All the old ideas of security are being blown apart with sudden change.

If you find yourselves unable to let go, try doing a small forgiveness ceremony. It can be for relationships or for past mistakes and failures that you have yet to forgive yourself for. Make your own ceremony. Use the Water Element in someway to help wash away these old energies.

Winter Solstice marks the coming of winter and the time to be still and soak up the energy you need for Spring. It might feel difficult this year because the pressure is on…everything feels like it is moving to fast and pushing us too much! I know I felt like that the past couple of days! But, I encourage you to make the time and find a way to be quiet and connect with Nature. Frankly, it might just help keep you sane!

The Element of Water

Our Kidney chi is associated with the element of Water. The kidney/bladder meridians are the ones associated with the Winter horari points in Five Element Acupuncture. Centered in the lower belly, water energy is a strong generative force . To be fearless, determined, and able to endure in pursuit of our goals we need strong Kidney chi.

Perseverance and longevity are associated with strong kidney chi and it is the storehouse of the most concentrated ancestral energy that we inherit and pass on through generations. When we don’t take time to care for ourselves and replenish ourselves through rest, good food, good company, and being in Nature;  our body will go to this chi center to pull energy. When we have depleted Kidney chi we are in serious need of rest and recuperation. Winter is a time for this.

Signs of Weak Kidney Qi

A person with Water imbalance can be withdrawn, fearful or anxious. They can also have problems with fertility, sexuality, urination or water metabolism. They may appear puffy or have dark circles under their eyes. Kidney Qi can often decline with aging.

The color of the Kidney is black, like the night, and it rules in the winter, a time when living things are slowed by cold and lie dormant conserving energy for the spring.

Watch Your Nervous System

Peoples nervous systems are amped up right now, I could tell this on my ride to the post office this afternoon! Yikes! Honking horns, shaking fists, it was a little crazy out there! Uranus in Aries (individualization and unexpected turns of events) went direct this month and it’s easy to tell that it is affecting people. Add the Christmas hustle and bustle and it gets a little wild!

Lots of energy and impatience coming to help us make big changes but, if we aren’t careful, we could get nasty! It’s good to be fed up in some ways, because it helps us change. However, we want to make sure we anchor in the Love so we can maintain compassion.

So, we might have to make an extra effort not to deplete our kidney chi this winter.Try to stay away from sugar, coffee, and alcohol as much as possible. These are all neuro-stimulants. Take time out for baths, aromatherapy, herbal teas, time in Nature or sitting by a fire.

We are in times of big change and turmoil. If you want an interesting read this winter, check out German Bio-physicist Dieter Broer’s book, Solar Revolution. He says that there is a lot scientific evidence that shows a relation between increases in solar activity and advances in our creative, mental, and spiritual abilities. We have had lots of solar disturbances the past several years. So rest now, build your chi and Dream big! Get ready for this new world coming!

Namaste and so much Love, Marilyn
